As the internet evolves, the conversations around how we govern it must become more diverse and forward-thinking. A critical forum for this dialogue is the Australian Internet Governance Forum (auIGF), taking place from 22–23 September 2026 at QT Canberra (and accessible to everyone online).
This year’s theme, A resilient internet for all Australians, resonates with what we do here at Identity Digital. While maintaining a stable DNS is critical, so is ensuring the internet remains a safe, dependable, and inclusive resource for all.
Amplifying First Peoples' Voices
True digital governance requires diverse perspectives, and we are proud to continue supporting the First Peoples Internet Governance and Policy Fellows this year. auDA, as part of its commitment to Reconciliation, is also providing support to enrich the First Peoples Fellows 2026 auIGF experience. Having recently joined the auIGF Multi-Stakeholder Steering Committee, the fellows have gained invaluable, behind-the-scenes insights into the Australian internet governance landscape.
We are currently building a roadmap for their continued growth, which includes:
- Governance experience: auIGF committee involvement and strategic reflection
- Industry guidance: Access to senior leadership and skill development opportunities
- Practical application: Hands-on, project-based policy work

Shaping the Future
Another highlight of this year’s forum is the launch of the NextGen Taskforce. This initiative focuses on prioritising the safety and wellbeing of internet users by tackling the emerging concept of Digital Duty of Care.
